Covid-19 has claimed 21 more lives in the country in the previous 24 hours, raising the tally from the pandemic to 27,531.

On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 15,56,758 as 847 more tested positive for the virus during the same time.

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday.

Barishal, Sylhet, Rangpur, and Mymensingh divisions reported no deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Among the 21 deceased, 12 were men and nine were women.

The current positivity rate is 3.43 percent while the total positivity rate stands at 15.96 percent.

A total of 24,670 samples were tested at 815 centers across the country in 24 hours.

The recovery count rose to 15,16,901 after another 960 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time. 

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 97.88 percent recovered, while 1.77 percent died.

The highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10).

Bangladesh reported the first Covid-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
