Covid-19 death crosses 20,000 in country

Bangladesh has reported another 237 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 20,016.

The government’s Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in its routine daily statement on Wednesday said the total caseload reach 12,10,982 as 16,230 fresh cases were reported during the period. It is the highest single-day caseload since the pandemic hit Bangladesh.

The highest 70 deaths were reported in Dhaka division while 62 died in Chattogram division in the preceding 24 hours. Among the dead, 149 were male and 88 were female.

DGHS said 30.12 percent of the 53,877 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 10,35,884 after another 13,470 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 85.54 percent recovered, while 1.66 percent died.

Earlier, daily highest 258 Covid-19 deaths and 14,925 cases were reported on Tuesday (July 27).
