Covid-19 claims 23 more, infects 694 in 24hrs

Covid-19 has claimed 23 more lives in the country in the last 24 hours, bringing the tally from the pandemic to 27,614.

On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 15,59,452 as 694 more tested positive for the virus during the same time.

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Tuesday.

Among the 23 deceased, 15 are men and 8 are women. The current positivity rate is 2.72 percent.

A total of  25, 499 samples were tested at 815 centers across the country in the last 24 hours.

In the past 24 hours, 708 patients recovered from the viral disease totaling the recovery to 15,20, 296.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 97.49 percent recovered, while 1.77 percent died.

The highest single-day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10).

Bangladesh reported the first Covid-19 cases on March 8, 2020, and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
