Covid-19 claims 21 more, infects 980 in country

Covid-19 has claimed 21 more lives in Bangladesh in the previous 24 hours, raising the tally from the pandemic to 27,414. 

On the other hand, the total caseload stood at 15,51,351 as 980 more tested positive for the virus during the same time, the lowest in four months.

The number of single-day Covid-19 cases was recorded below 1000 on May 17 last, logging 698 cases. Yesterday, 25 deaths and 818 cases were reported which was four-month lowest.

It was said in a press release signed by professor Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration), Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

Dhaka division alone saw 10 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while 4 died in Chattogram division during the same time. Among the dead, 7 were male and 14 were female.

DGHS said 4.41 percent of the 22,221 samples collected at 815 center across the country in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 15,11,479 after another 1,312 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 97.43 percent recovered, while 1.77 percent died.

The highest single day deaths 264 from Covid-19 were reported on Tuesday (August 10).

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020 while the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
