Bangladesh recorded 18 more deaths from the deadly coronavirus and 1,899 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. 

With the latest, the tally of infections has surged to 5,66,838 while the death toll from the pandemic rise to 8,642 in the country, said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in a press release on Friday (March 19, 2021). 

Earlier on Thursday, 2,187 COVID-19 patients were diagnosed while 16 deaths related to the disease were reported.

A total of 18,917 samples were tested at 219 authorized laboratories across the country during the time.

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
