Covid-19: 40 die, 1140 infected in 24hrs

Bangladesh has reported 40 more Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll from the pandemic to 12,045, according to the official figures.
Besides, 1,140 Covid-19 cases were confirmed during the period. With this, the overall caseload has surged to 777,397
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) informed this in a press release on Wednesday (May 12, 2021).
It said 8.67 percent of the 15,296 samples collected in 24 hours were positive. “The positivity rate is 7.45 percent.”
The recovery count rose to 718,249 after another 2,928 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the past 24 hours. “The mortality rate stands at 1.55 percent.”
Earlier, 33 deaths and 1,230 cases were reported related to the disease yesterday.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
