‘MT Delta LPG 1’, the country’s first LPG tanker ship, was built in the port city of Chattogram. Approved by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS Class), the ship is 78.87 meters long and 13 meters wide.
The ship, built at the Delta Shipyard in the Kalurghat area of the city’s Mohra, was floated in the river on Monday. On this occasion, a gathering of the shipbuilding industry, banks, financial institutions and businessmen was held in the yard.
The ‘MT Delta LPG 1’ with a draft of 3.3 meters has a capacity of 1000 metric tons.
Amirul Haque, managing director of Delta LPG Limited, said, “We want to be partners in implementing the far-reaching vision announced by the Prime Minister and building a better Bangladesh. For this, we have decorated the ship in red and green on this Golden Jubilee of Independence. We want to send the LPG by the river to neighboring countries, including the seven sister states of India. We have exported cement to these states before.”
The yard is currently building three cargo vessels, an LPG carrier and 10 IR class approved vessels, he added.
