Inaugurating the newly built ‘Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center’ (BBCFEC) at the capital’s outskirts Purbachal, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina hoped that the best use of the center would be ensured by organizing export fairs, trade fairs, exporters’ conferences, buyer-seller fairs and other trade enhancement activities.

“The development of the country is being made possible due to the continuity of the government,” Sheikh Hasina said. “The pace of development has slowed down due to the pandemic but the country has not stopped. Investment opportunities will be created as a developing country.”

The Prime Minister inaugurated the BBCFEC building on Thursday morning by virtually connecting via video conference from her official residence Ganabhaban in the capital.

The head of government said the exhibition center would be used as a permanent venue for various product-based fairs throughout the year. “From now on, Dhaka International Trade Fair will be held here on a permanent platform,” the Premier informed.

The government allotted 20 acres of land and later another 6.1 acres under the Export Promotion Bureau at RAJUK’s Purbachal in 2015. A spacious exhibition center with all kinds of modern facilities has been built there with the project assistance of the Chinese government. The total cost for the construction of the center, including the value of land, is Tk 817 crore, of this, China’s government has spent Tk 526 crore.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi, Commerce Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh and Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Li Jiming addressed the inaugural function.

Members of the Cabinet, Advisers to the Prime Minister, Members of Parliament, high-ranking civil and military officials of the government and invited guests from home and abroad were present at the main function at the Purbachal New City project area.
