Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) has found a new gas field in Zakiganj, Sylhet. The concerned thinks this is going to be the 28th gas field in the country.
The company was able to ignite the DST (Drill Steam Test) at the search well in Paschim Anandapur village of the upazila on Tuesday.
“Positive” symptoms were found at each stage of the experiment, however, BAPEX officials do not officially call it a gas field.
They said there may be pockets in the search well. As a result, it is being monitored. The well will be declared as a gas field if it is finally successful.
The pressure inside the well is 6,000 PSI (per square inch) and the floating pressure is more than 13,000. A level test has been running. BAPEX is looking at the possibility of getting gas in a total of four levels in the well.
“Nothing can be said right now. There are a few steps to testing outside the well. We will be confirmed when success comes in all steps. The search well is currently under observation,” said BAPEX’s field management sub-division deputy general manager Md. Manjurul Haque.
So far, 27 gas fields have been discovered in the country. The proven reserves in these gas fields are 21.4 TCF, with six more TCF potential reserves. Of this, about 18 TCF has been taken. There are only three TCFs left as proven stocks, and potential reserves are like seven more TSFs.
