Country sees less than 180 COVID deaths on Eid day

Bangladesh has reported 173 more deaths from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours - less than 180 deaths since July 6 - bringing the deaths toll from the pandemic to 18,498.
Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 11,36,503 as 7,614 new cases were confirmed in the last 24 hours.
This was stated in its routine daily statement signed by Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (July 21).
Dhaka logged 58 Covid-19 deaths and 2,720 new cases, the most daily death and new cases among the eight divisions, while Khulna tailed 38 deaths and 981 cases, Chattogram 32 deaths and 2,183 cases, Rangpur 16 deaths and 421 cases, and Rajshahi 11 deaths and 402 cases.
DGHS said 30.48 percent of the 24,979 samples were collected in 24 hours, yielding the virus positivity in 7,614 people.
The recovery count rose to 9,61,044 after another 7,614 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the same time.
The DGHS statistics showed the recovery rate is 84.56 percent while the mortality rate at 1.63 percent.
Earlier, 231 Covid-19 deaths and 13,321 cases were reported on Monday (July 19).
