Bangladesh counts 235 fatalities, 15,776 fresh cases in a day

Bangladesh has reported another 235 deaths from Covid-19 in the span of 24 hours, soaring the death toll to 21,397. Besides, the overall caseload has surged to 12,96,093 as 15,776 cases were detected during the time.

The information was obtained in a press release signed by Professor Dr. Nasima Sultana, Additional Director General (Administration) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), today.

A maximum of 73 deaths and 7,735 fresh cases were logged in the Dhaka division while Chattogram tailed 65 deaths and 3,734 cases, Khulna 32 deaths and 946 cases, Rajshahi 21 deaths and 771 cases. 

DGHS said 28.51 percent of the 55,284 samples collected in 24 hours were tested positive.

The recovery count rose to 11,25,045 after another 16,297 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the time.

The DGHS statistics showed of the people infected from the beginning, 86.60 percent recovered while 1.65 percent died.

On Monday (August 2), 246 deaths by Covid-19 and 15,989 cases were reported.

Earlier, daily highest 258 Covid-19 deaths and 14,925 cases were reported on July 27.

The first Covid-19 cases were reported in Bangladesh on March 8, 2020, and the first deaths from the virus were logged on March 18.
