Coronavirus death toll rises to 6 in Bangladesh

Health Minister Zahid Malek said another person has died of coronavirus infection in Bangladesh in the last 24 hours. The death toll has risen to six in the country.

He said this at a regular live video conference at the government's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) at around 12:30 pm on Wednesday.

He said three more people have been infected with coronavirus in the past 24 hours. The number of victims has risen to 54.

He added that one more person had returned home after being completely healed. With the latest one, a total of 26 people in the country have recovered from the virus.

The health minister said “Every day, our health system is improving. Ventilators are being added to different hospitals day by day. We are building more hospitals to treat the infected people. Several hospitals have already been built.”  The coronavirus test is being conducted at various medical college hospitals too, he added.

The coronavirus, which was first detected in China in late December last, is now a global epidemic. The virus has spread to about 200 countries and regions around the world. So far, 860,170 people have been infected with the deadly around the world and 42,344 people have died. On the other hand, 178,442 people have returned home after treatment.

The virus was first detected in Bangladesh on March 8. All schools, colleges and universities in the country have been declared closed to prevent Coronavirus transmission. Ban has been imposed on crowds, meetings-rallies.
