Coronavirus death toll crosses 200 in country

Seven more people have died from the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 206 in the country. Besides, 709 others have tested positive for the lethal virus during the time. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 13,134. 

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Friday. 

A total of 5,941 samples have been tested in 35 coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 709 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 13,134, she said. 

About the seven new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that five of them were male and two were female. One patient was aged above 90, two between 71 and 80, two between 61 and 70 and two others between 51 and 60. 

Meanwhile, 191 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 2,101, the health official said. 

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases. 

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 212 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Friday afternoon, a total of 3,929,597 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 270,868 while 1,347,854 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
