Coronavirus cases in country exceed 30,000

1694 more people have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of positive cases climbed to 30,205 in the country. 

DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Friday. 

A total of 9,727 samples have been tested in 47 coronavirus testing labs across the country including the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) over the last 24 hours. Of these, 1694 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 30,205, she said. 

Besides, 24 more deaths from the virus have been reported during the time, raising the total number of fatalities from the pandemic to 432 in the country. About the 24 new fatalities, Prof Nasima said that one of them was aged between 81 and 90, two between 71 and 80, six between 61 and 70, five between 51 and 60, two between 41 and 50, three between 31 and 40 and five others between 21 and 30.

Besides, 588 new people have recovered from the novel coronavirus over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 6190, the health official said. 

The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases. 

The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Friday afternoon, a total of 5,209,686 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 334,866 while 2,092,603 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
