Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that the coronavirus vaccine may come on January 25 or 26.
He said this after attending a meeting with journalists in Manikganj on Thursday.
The minister said the World Health Organization (WHO) would soon approve the Oxford vaccine. The vaccine also has fewer side effects. Many will get the vaccine in Bangladesh at a lower cost and in a shorter time than the rest of the country. The Oxford vaccine is available for only Tk 425. Vaccine orders have already been confirmed for about 6 crores people. Of these, 3 crore doses of the Oxford vaccine will be available. In the first shipment, 50 lakh doses of vaccine will come in the country. The rest will come in phases.
He added that a committee headed by the chief secretary to the prime minister has been working to make a list of vaccine receivers for the first consignment.
Regarding vaccination, the minister said 42,000 health workers have been trained to administer the jabs program. People 55 years and older will be vaccinated in phases. However, young, sick, and expatriates will not be vaccinated against coronavirus for the time being.
