Cop among 3 killed as covered van hits wrecker during rescue operation

Three people, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Highway Police, were killed as a covered van hit a wrecker during the rescue operation on Dhaka-Chattogram highway at Sayedpur area of Chauddagram Upazila in Cumilla early Monday. 

The deceased were identified as ASI Akter Hossain, son of Dula Mia of Choto Batua village of Barura Upazila of Cumilla, covered van driver Md Fahad, son of Saleh Ahmed of Senbag of Noakhali and helper Md Sumon, son of Ismail Hossain Babul of Nandigram of Lakshmipur. 

Abul Kalam Azad, in-charge of the highway police's Miabazar outpost, said a Chattogram-bound covered van overturned on the road at Sayedpur area around 5 am when its driver lost control over the wheel. 

On information, a wrecker of highway police rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation. At the same time, the wrecker hit the police ban when another covered van hit it, leaving three people dead on the spot and two people injured. 

Later, two injured - wrecker driver Shwapan and his associate Mamun - were sent to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
