Ramzan Mia, an official, and his wife Tania Begum have escaped after embezzling Tk 10 crore of a cooperative society named Combined Savings Cooperative Society. The money was saved by the lower-class people of Narayanganj Sadar Upazila for over 18 years.

Thousands of clients of the cooperative society in the Baburail Baubazar area of the city staged a human chain on Sunday morning demanding the arrest of fraud Ramzan Mia and his family members and to return their savings.

Afroza Hasan Biva, Panel Mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation, has expressed solidarity with the demands of the clients in the human chain program in front of Narayanganj Press Club.

Speakers at that time said that the cooperative society has been run by members of Ramzan Mia’s family in the area for over 18 years. Most of the members of the cooperative society are lower-class people. Ramzan Mia and his wife have fled the area in July without paying customers’ savings during the coronavirus pandemic. Meanwhile, several attempts were made to contact Ramzan Mia but his mobile phone was found switched off.

Ali Abbas, a client of the association, said that Ramzan Mia has been running the association in Baubazar for 18 years. Clients trusted him and deposited money every month and week. He used to return people’s money every year on Baishakh. He and his wife Tania gained the faith of the people in this area.

Another member of the cooperative society, Nurjahan Begum, said that Ramzan has gained people’s trust by saying good things first. And by using the faith of the general people he cheated a thousand of clients. No one could contact him for more than two months.
