‘Construction work of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge from 2020’

The government has taken initiative to build Bangabandhu Railway Bridge next to Bangabandhu Bridge on the Jamuna River. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the construction work before the Centenary anniversary of Bangabandhu on March 17, 2020. The bridge will be completed within four years of construction. 

Railways Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan told reporters after visiting the proposed site of Bangabandhu Railway Bridge construction on the banks of Jamuna River in Tangail on Tuesday morning. 

The minister also said the bridge will be constructed in two parts. One part will be in the eastern part of the river and the other part will be in the western part. The tender process has already been completed. “Three Japanese companies have participated in the tender. The company who will be the first will build the bridge.” 

Md Shahidul Islam, District Commissioner of Tangail along with senior officials of the Railway Department and Superintendent of Police Sanjit Kumar Roy were also present. 

Earlier, when Minister reached the railway station on the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge, Awami League leaders and activists of Bhuapur and Kalihati Upazila of Tangail welcomed him.
