The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism is working as per the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build the country’s first heliport, said Md. Muhibul Haque, senior secretary of the ministry.
He made the remarks at a zoom conference titled ‘Tourism: A Penalty Shoot for the Economy of Bangladesh’ on Wednesday.
The senior secretary said a suitable place has been identified for the heliport. A committee has been formed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) to carry out the ancillary work, which will submit a report within a short time.
After the committee submits its report, a formal announcement will be made on various issues related to the construction of the heliport, he added.
Md. Mahibul Haque said work is underway to formulate a policy for the development of tourism in Bangladesh. This policy will specify the responsibilities of each ministry involved in tourism so that they can play a role in the development of tourism in Bangladesh by performing their part properly.
A concerted initiative of all government and non-government organizations is needed for the development of tourism. It is not possible to achieve the desired progress without integrated initiatives, he further said.
