The conjoined twins Rokeya and Rabeya left Dhaka for Hungary on Friday night for better treatment with the support of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Earlier on the same day, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim provided the air tickets to their parents at a press briefing held at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

According to the source, the twins along with their parents will stay in Hungary for three to four months where they will undergo primary surgeries required for their final separation. Later, the final surgery will take place at the institute in Bangladesh.

The government will bear the entire cost of their treatment procedure while the whole treatment procedure would be supervised by a German-based organization.

A total of four people, including a doctor of DMCH named Hossain Imam, will accompany the twins.

Taslima Khatun, wife of Rafiqul Islam, of Atlanka village under Chatmohar Upazila of Pabna, had given birth to the conjoined twins and now the couple wants them to be separated through surgery.
