A college student was hacked to death on Hetem Kha and Bornali intersection in Rajshahi city early Tuesday while going to his village home in Dinajpur to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with the family.

The deceased was identified as Fardin Ashariya Rabbi, an honours second-year student of Rajshahi City College hailing from Mominpur village of Dinajpur’s Parbatipur Upazila.

On information, police recovered the body from a road connecting Hetem Kha and Bornali of the city around 6:00 am and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy, said Golam Ruhul Kuddus, Spokesman and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Sadar) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

The body bore injury marks on the head, he said, adding that it is not clear whether it was a planned killing or the outcome of a mugging attempt. Police also found his mobile phone on the spot. He talked to his family members using it.

Family members said Rabbi started from his college hostel for home in the early hours and talked to them before leaving the hostel.

Police said he might have been killed on his way to local railway station.
