College girl torched in Narsingdi, 1 held

A college girl was set on fire by miscreants as pouring kerosene on her body in Narsingdi.
The incident occured on Thursday night around 8:00 pm in Sadar Upazila. Police have arrested a youth named Sajib in the incident.
The victim named Phulon Rani Barman, 22, of Birpur Moholla of Narsingdi municipal area. She was rushed to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition on Thursday night.
Confirming the matter, Raipura Police Station OC (Operation) Mozaffar Hossain said, “Police raid goes on from night on the directive of the Superintendent of Police. A youth named Sajib was arrested for initial interrogation.”
According to police and victim’s family members, Phulon went to a pastry shop with uncle around 8:00 pm for buying cake. After buying cake, her uncle sent her home. On reaching the house, two unidentified persons tied Phulon’s hand-mouth and took her to a solitary place. After pouring kerosene, they set her body on fire and fled. Later, local people rescued Phulon and taken her to the hospital.
It is learned that Phulon’s cousin Sumon’s brother-in-law used to like her. For the last two years, he was offering love to Phulon. But she did not agree. In this context, the incident of fire may occur.
