Cinematographer Mahfuzur Rahman passes away

The cinematographer of numerous movies such as ‘Srabon Megher Din’, ‘Ghetuputra Komola’, ‘Aguner Poroshmoni’ —- Mahfuzur Rahman Khan has passed away (Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un). He breathed his last on Friday around 12:26 am at the capital’s United Hospital. 

Shahadat Rahman Khan, nephew of Mahfuzur Rahman Khan confirmed the matter to Daily Bangladesh.

He said, “The first namaz-e-janaza will be held at Chawkbazar Shahi Mosque after Friday Jummah Prayer. Then at 3:00 pm, his body will be taken to BFDC, his longtime workplace – there his second namaz-e-janaza will be held. Later, Mahfuzur Rahman Khan will be buried at Azimpur Graveyard.”    

Earlier on November 25, Mahfuzur Rahman Khan became ill while eating dinner at his old Dhaka residence. When there is bleeding with cough, the relatives brought him to the capital’s Green Life Hospital. After being there for life support, he was shifted to United Hospital on November 30 following a family decision.

Mahfuzur Rahman Khan was born on May 19, 1949, in a Benedi family at Hakim Habibur Rahman Road in Old Dhaka. As a professional cinematographer, he worked on his first film in 1972. He has worked with film directors like Alamgir Kabir, Alamgir Kumkum, Humayun Ahmed, Shibli Sadik.

He won the National Film Award nine times, Bacchus Award eight times, and Meril Prothom Alo Awards for one time in a special category.
