Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Li Keqiang on Monday congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her re-election in the 11th parliamentary elections as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.

Chinese Ambassador in Dhaka Zhang Zuo handed over their congratulatory messages to Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban, said Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim.

Earlier, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, Prime Minister of Bhutan Lotay Tshering, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Chief Minister of Tripura Biplobi Kumar Deb also greeted Sheikh Hasina.

The Awami League-led Grand Alliance clinched a landslide victory with over two-thirds majority in the 11th general elections amid festivity. Of the Grand Alliance, the ruling Awami League alone got 259 seats while Jatiya Party 20 in the elections.

The massive victory gave the Grand Alliance yet another chance to form the government for the third consecutive terms. The win also paved the way for Awami League President Sheikh Hasina to lead the government as Prime Minister for the fourth times and third times in a row.
