China’s State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe has arrived in Dhaka on a one-day visit.
He landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital at around 11:15 am on Tuesday.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam welcomed his Chinese counterpart at the airport.
According to various sources, China’s Defense Minister will pay homage to the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by visiting the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum from the airport. He will pay a courtesy call on President M Abdul Hamid at 3:00 pm at Bangabhaban. Besides, he may also meet Army Chief General Aziz Ahmed. After the tour, he will leave Dhaka for Colombo in Sri Lanka today.
General Wei Fenghe’s Dhaka visit is significant in this phase of changing geopolitics, strengthening defense cooperation and vaccination diplomacy. As a result, these issues will be of special importance during his visit.
Bangladesh is in contact with China to control the second wave of coronavirus. This is very significant as a high-level visit from China after the talks began.
China’s Defense Minister was scheduled to arrive in Dhaka from Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, on a one-day visit at the end of November last year. It was postponed on the eve of the tour.
It is to be mentioned that two weeks before the arrival of the Chinese Defense Minister in Dhaka, India’s Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane visited Bangladesh.
