Chinese authorities have sealed off a village after a risdent died of bubonic plague, a centuries-old disease responsible for the most deadly pandemic in human history.

The incident took place on Thursday at Suji Xincun village in the country's northern Inner Mongolia region, CNN reported. The local health department confirmed the news.

According to a report, the man was diagnosed with bubonic plague before he died. The entire village has been locked down to prevent infection as soon as the matter is known.

In addition to the dead man's home, the Chinese government has promised to disinfect the area. Nine members of the deceased's family have been asked to remain in quarantine. Those who have come in contact with the family in the last few days are also being searched.

But so far no one else in the village has been reported to be infected with bubonic plague. Apart from 9 members of the family, several of them have also been tested.

Earlier, in late December last year, the first patient was diagnosed with coronavirus in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China. The virus then spread around the world. More than 7 lakh people have died of COVID-19 so far worldwide.

COVID-19 infection has led to another viral disease in China's Jiangsu and Anhui provinces. The disease is called Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS). Seven people have already died of the disease. Another 60 people were infected.

Experts warn that the virus can be transmitted from one person to another. However, the bubonic plague struck this time amid the anxiety of SFTS.
