Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne, described the coronavirus pandemic as a 'strange, frustrating and often distressing experience'.

He made this remark in a recorded video message, marked his first appearance since coming out of self-isolation on Wednesday.

The Prince of Wales, 71, paid tribute to emergency services workers and shop staff and stressed the importance of living with hope.

Prince Charles is now out of self-isolation, following his diagnosis of coronavirus. He spent seven days self-isolating in Scotland after testing positive and displaying mild symptoms. His wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, was tested and did not have the virus, but will self-isolate until the end of the week.

A number of senior British officials have tested positive for the virus in recent days, including Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the Health Secretary Matt Hancock.
