Cattle markets to sit in Capital from July 17

Dhaka south and north city corporations have decided to operate 19 makeshift cattle markets in the capital for trading the sacrificial animals maintaining the health guidelines from July 17 on the occasion of the Eid-ul-Azha.

Of the total 19 cattle markets, 10 markets will be operated in the jurisdiction of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and nine others in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas for the five days till July 21 (Eid day), according to the officials of the both city corporations.

Apart from the 19 makeshift cattle markets, the permanent cattle markets of Gabtali in DNCC and Sarulia in DSCC areas will also remain in operation during the period, they said.

Since the Ministries of Fisheries and Livestock urged the traders and customers for buying and selling sacrificial animals using the online platforms, the government has already launched marking the Eid to stem the COVID-19 infection. Both the city corporations' officials said they would give more emphasize on online trading instead of offline marketing.

According to the DSCC and DNCC officials, considering the current situation of the coronavirus, some conditions have been added in the terms and conditions of market management.

The conditions include the markets should have arrangement of enough soaps for washing hands, none will be allowed to enter the markets with fever, all should wear hand gloves, face masks and use hand sanitizers and wastes cannot be thrown here and there in the market areas.

Besides, there would have separate gates for entry and exit, all should maintain social distancing, and elderly and ailing people along with children will not be allowed to enter the markets.

The lease holders should maintain these conditions, the both city corporations' officials said, adding that if anyone fails to maintain the conditions, his/her lease will be cancelled.

The makeshift cattle markets in the DSCC are: the open space adjacent to the Institute of Leather Technology ground in Hazaribagh area, open space surrounding the Postagola crematorium, open space
surrounding the Meradia Bazar, the open space adjacent to Dholaikhal Truck Terminal, open space of Blocks- E, F, G and H and section 1 and 2 of Aftabnagar (Easter Housing), open space behind DSCC Market at Golapbagh, open spaces surrounding the Maitri Sangha Club at North Shahjahanpur Khilgaon Railgate Bazar area, open space surrounding the Donia College, open space surrounding the Dhupkhola East and Club and open space surrounding the Rahmatganj Club in Lalbagh area.

The nine makeshift cattle markets in the DNCC area are: the open spaces of Badda Eastern Housing (Aftabnagar) Block-E and Section-3, open spaces adjacent to Kawla Shialdanga, open spaces of Uttarkhan Mainartek Shaheed Nagar Housing (residential) Project, open spaces from Brindaban to BGMEA building in Uttara 7 no sector, Bhatara (Saidnagar) temporary cattle market and open spaces of Rajdhani Housing, Swapnadhara Housing and Basila Garden City adjacent to Basila 40-feet road, open spaces of Salam Steel Limited and Jamuna Housing Company and privately owned open spaces adjacent to the north side of 300-feet road under the Ward no 43 in in Mohammadpur.
