The Election Commission (EC) has filed a case against Mojibur Rahman Chowdhury Nixon, an independent MP from Faridpur-4 constituency, for violating the code of conduct.
Faridpur district senior election officer Nawabul Islam filed the case with Charbhadrasan police station on Thursday morning.
Earlier on Wednesday, after a meeting with law enforcement over the Dhaka-5 and Dhaka-17 constituencies by-polls, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda said the EC would file a case against Nixon for violating the code of conduct. A three-member investigation committee will be formed in the incident.
“The behavior of the MP of Faridpur-4 constituency is not desirable. He has violated the electoral code of conduct and the provision will be fully applicable as per the act. That’s all I can say,” he further said.
It is to be mentioned that Charbhadrasan Upazila Chairman by-election was held last Saturday. During the election, a Magistrate on duty detained a supporter of MP Nixon at the Char Ayodhya Government Primary School.
Enraged, MP Nixon called Charbhadrasan’s UNO over the phone and swearing-in vulgar language. In the evening after the election, at a rally in front of the Charbhadrasan Upazila Awami League office, he called the Faridpur DC a ‘razakar’ and warned him.
