Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary today said to call 999 if a policeman harasses anyone for no reason.

He made this statement while distributing the awards for the annual police sports competition and annual rally of Sylhet Metropolitan and District Police on Sunday afternoon.

The IGP said, “The police would not be able to remain in the previous position, the innocent people can never be harassed in any circumstances. All of the measures have been made so that people can get 100 percent service from the police. Still, any person is harassed then strict action will be taken against accused (police).”

"We want to be the police of the people, want to be human. So all the policemen have to work in a public-friendly manner. So that we can go further than the police of the developed country,” he said.

He added that there has achieved 100 percent transparency in recruitment process of police. It has been proven that police is 100 percent transparent by recruiting a number of ten thousand police for the previous time. The children of the garment workers and day laborers are now members of our family.

Earlier in the afternoon, IGP Mohammad Javed Patwary inaugurated the competition with blowing up balloons as well as taking a sport-salute at the District Police Lines field.
