COVID vaccination drive to kick off on Jan 27: Health Secretary

The COVID-19 vaccination drive will kick off on January 27 by vaccinating a nurse at Kurmitola General Hospital in the capital.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to inaugurate the program, Secretary of the Health Services Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Md Abdul Mannan told reporters on Saturday.
He said that a nurse will receive the first coronavirus vaccine in Bangladesh.
Earlier on Wednesday, in a meeting chaired by the principal secretary to the Prime Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, the Health Secretary presented detailed information about the coronavirus vaccine.
Md Abdul Mannan said 25 people, including the frontliners, would be vaccinated at Kurmitola Hospital on the first day. Later, teachers, freedom fighters, army, police, civil administration and media personnel working as frontliners will get the vaccine.
The five million doses of vaccine bought to prevent coronavirus will arrive in Dhaka on January 25, he said.
Six million people will be vaccinated in the first month. In the third month, they will get the second dose again.
