COVID-19 deaths fall, infections rise in country

As many as, 16 people have died from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 6108 in the country. Earlier, 25 deaths from the virus had been registered yesterday.
Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 4,23,620 as 1699 new cases were confirmed during the period. Meanwhile, 1683 people had been diagnosed with the disease yesterday.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the information in a press release issued on Tuesday.
According to the release, a total of 11,419 samples were tested at 113 authorized laboratories across the country during the time. Besides, the recovery count rose to 3,41,416 after another 1648 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of this afternoon, a total of 51,316,866 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,270,494 while 36,100,374 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
