COVID-19 death toll rises to 5500 in country

23 more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 5500 in the country. Besides, the tally of infections has surged to 3,77,073 as 1203 new cases were confirmed during the period.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) came up with the information in a press release issued on Saturday.
According to the release, a total of 10,676 samples were tested at 109 authorized laboratories across the country during the time. Besides, the recovery count rose to 2,91,365 after another 1453 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period.
Of the total sample tests in the past 24 hours, 11.08 percent tested positive, while 18.29 percent cases were detected from the total tests conducted so far, the release added.
Among the total infections, 77.27 percent patients have recovered, while 1.46 percent died so far since the first COVID-19 positive cases were reported in the country on March 8.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 37,150,922 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 1,073,300 while 27,917,183 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
