COVID-19 cases in country top 1 lac, 38 die in 24hrs

The tally of infections in the country has surged to 1,02,292 after 3803 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the last 24 hours. Besides, 38 more fatalities from the virus have been reported during the time, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 1343.
DGHS Additional Director General (administration) Prof Nasima Sultana came up with the disclosure joining the daily health bulletin of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) through online on Thursday.
A total of 16,259 samples have been tested at 61 authorised coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours. Of these, 3803 have been diagnosed with coronavirus, bringing the total number of positive cases to 1,02,292, she said.
38 of them have died in the last 24 hours. Among them 31 are males and 8 are females, increasing the total death toll to 1,343.
Meanwhile, 1975 more people have recovered from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of recoveries in the country to 40,164, the health official said.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Thursday afternoon, a total of 8,417,100 people have been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 451,661 while 4,429,122 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
