COVID-19 cases in country cross 3 lakh mark, 54 more deaths

The tally of coronavirus cases has crossed the 3 lakh mark in the country as 2529 more people tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours. Besides, 54 more COVID-19 patients died in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll from the pandemic to 4082.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided the information issuing a press release on Wednesday.
According to the release, the tally of infections has surged to 3,02,147 as 2545 new cases were confirmed during the period. A total of 15,070 samples have been tested at 91 authorized coronavirus testing labs across the country over the last 24 hours.
The recovery count rose to 1, 90,183 after another 3,427 patients were discharged from the hospitals during the period, it added.
The first coronavirus death was reported in the country on March 18, ten days after the detection of the first COVID-19 cases.
The coronavirus, that first reported in China late last year, is now affecting 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances. As of Wednesday afternoon, a total of 24,083,507 people has been diagnosed with the virus worldwide, as the death toll rises to 823,917 while 16,626,444 patients have recovered, according to worldometers data.
