CCEA approves 5 purchase proposals at cost of Tk 1094cr

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved 5 procurement proposals at a cost of Tk 1,094,23,00,094 crore.

The approval came from the 36th meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase (CCGP) this year held today virtually with Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal in the chair.

The meeting was attended by committee members, senior secretaries of the Cabinet Division, secretaries of concerned ministries and senior officials. At the end of the meeting, Finance Minister and Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin outlined various aspects of the approved purchase proposals.

The Finance Minister said 2 proposals were raised for the approval of the CCEA committee and 6 for the approval of the purchase committee (including 3 presentations in the table). Among the proposals presented in the purchase committee were – three from the Ministry of Industry, one from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, one from the Directorate of Statistics and Information Management and one from the Public Safety Division. 

Out of the 6 proposals presented by the purchase committee, 5 proposals were approved with a total cost of Tk 1,094,23,00,094 crores, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal also said.  

Briefing reporters, Cabinet Division Additional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said the CCGP meeting approved another proposal from the Secondary and Higher Education Division for awarding the contracts of two packages to the joint venture of The Builders Engineers Associates Ltd, Electro Global, package no-PW-6(2) and to the joint venture of MBPL and ATCL with around Tk 100.61 crore under the project for further development of Bangladesh Agricultural University.

He also informed that a proposal from the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) for procuring tabs was withdrawn from the meeting and it is likely to be submitted again before the next meeting. 

In the meeting, the committee has approved the purchase of two Mi-171A2 Russian helicopters from JSC Russian Helicopters for Bangladesh Police with around Tk 428.12 crore through G2G in order to further strengthen the capacity of this law enforcement agency.

The Additional Secretary said the meeting also approved three separate proposals under which the Bangladesh Chemical Industries Corporation (BCIC) under the Ministry of Industries would procure some 90,000 metric tons of fertilizer.

He said the BCIC would procure some 30,000 metric tons of granular urea fertilizer from Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Bangladesh with around Tk 185.85 crore, another 30,000 metric tons of bulk prilled urea fertilizer from Muntajat, Qatar with around TK 189.40 crore and the rest of 30,000 metric tons of bulk granular urea fertilizer from Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) with around Tk 190.25 crore.

The Additional Secretary the meeting approved two separate proposals in principle including one for appointing the joint venture of BRTC, BUET and SMEC International Pty Ltd as the consultant for the Rajshahi WASA Surface Water Treatment Plant Project. 

Rajshahi WASA under the Local Government Division will implement the project.

Cabinet DivisionAdditional Secretary Md Shamsul Arefin said that the meeting approved another proposal in principle from the ICT Division for implementing the packages (good and public works) by the Bangladesh Diesel Plant Limited of Bangladesh Army under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) for setting up 11 IT training and incubation centers at 11 districts.

These centers are being established under the project for setting up Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Centers (11) being implemented by the Bangladesh Hi-tech Park Authority.
