The voting for the Chattogram City Corporation (CMC) election is underway peacefully. The polling will start at 8:00 am on Wednesday and will continue till 4:00 pm.

This is the first time that voters are voting in EVM in CCC polls. About 18,000 members of law enforcement agencies including police, RAB and BGB are working to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

Returning Officer Muhammad Hasanuzzaman said the voting has started simultaneously in all the centers since morning. Voters are exercising their voting right by coming to the center. “No violence has been reported so far,” he added.

Besides the law enforcement agencies, judicial magistrates and executive magistrates are on the ground. Adequate security measures have been taken at each center.

Meanwhile, a long queue of voters has been observed in several centers of the city since the start of polling in the morning. As there is no general holiday in the constituency, they stand in line before going to work after voting quickly, the voters said.

The total number of voters in 41 wards of CCC is 19,38,706; of these - 9,92,033 are male voters and 9,46,673 are female voters. There are 735 centers and 4,886 booths for voting.
