By-polls in Ershad’s Rangpur-3 Oct 5

Election Commission (EC) today declared 5th October the date of the by-election in Rangpur-3 constituency, which has been evacuated due to the death of the former President and Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad.

Additional Secretary of the Election Commission (EC) Mokhlesur Rahman announced the schedule at a press conference at the media center of Agargaon in the capital on Sunday.

According to the schedule, the last date for submitting nomination papers for the elections will is September 09. On September 11 the nomination Paper routinization and the last day of withdrawal of nominations will be 16th September and polls on October 5.

On that day, voting will be held from 9 am to 5 pm. In this by-election electronic voting machine (EVM) will be taken at every center. Everything, including mock voting, will be completed on time.

On July 14, HM Ershad died at the Combined Military Hospital in the capital while under treatment. The parliamentary secretariat declared the seat vacant on July 16 after his death. Secretary of the Parliament Secretariat (Routine Responsibility) AI Ghulam Kibria published the gazette of the vacancy.
