The Upazila administration in Kushtia's Mirpur on Thursday sealed off a busy village bazar and several houses for seven days to prevent Covid-19 transmission.

Mirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Linkon Biswas made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon. Mirpur Upazila Parishad Chairman Kamrul Arefin and local chairman were present at the time.

It has been reported that a resident of Old Azampur village went to Chapainawabganj for work some days ago. After returning from the district, he tested positive for Covid-19. He is now undergoing treatment at Kushtia General Hospital. Two family members of the patient also tested positive for Covid-19. They are recuperating at home.

Initially, it has been thought that the man might have been infected with the Delta variant (Indian variant).

The UNO said that the local administration decided to seal Azampur Bazar off for seven days as the man went to there after his return from Chapainawabganj. Besides, the house of the infected person is in the vicinity, he added.
