The government has allowed public transport to operate on the condition of complying with the hygiene rules. Public transport will run from tomorrow, but only inside the city. Inter-district bus services will be closed.
The gazette notification issued on Wednesday extending the lockdown till May 16 said public transport from one district to another would be closed. Public transport will run only within the district. Passenger boats and trains will remain closed as before. The new restrictions will take effect on Thursday.
Earlier, in a virtual exchange meeting with BRTA and BRTC officials on Monday, Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said public transport would be introduced “on conditions”.
The condition is that city service and district bus service cannot enter other districts. Before leaving the bus, disinfectant should be sprayed on the whole bus in compliance with complete hygiene rules. Passengers, bus drivers and assistants have to follow hygiene rules and run public transport leaving half the seats empty.
