Road crash kills 3 including Nagarkanda Mayor’s wife-son
At least three people including Faridpur's Nagarkanda municipality mayor's wife and son were killed as a bus hit a microbus carrying them. Ten people including Nagarkanda mayor Nimai Chandra Sarkar were injured in the accident.
The accident took place at around 9:30 pm on Wednesday in Kaler Mor area of Kaichail Union in Nagarkanda Upazila.
The deceased were identified as Sanchita Sarkar, wife of Nimai Chandra Sarkar - mayor of Nagarkanda municipality, their son Gaurab Sarkar, and Kamal Matubbar, joint general secretary of the municipal Juba League.
According to the locals, the mayor Nimai Chandra Sarkar went to a sweet shop in Bhanga with his wife, son and some others. When they were returning home to Nagarkanda in a microbus, a Chttogram-bound GS Paribahan bus coming from the opposite direction hit their microbus at Kaler Mor area, leaving Sanchita and Kamal Matubbar dead on the spot.
Municipal Mayor Nimai Sarkar and his son Gaurab Sarkar died on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. The municipal mayor is undergoing treatment at the hospital. His condition is also critical.
Confirming the matter, Bhanga Highway Police Station OC Omar Farooq said the bodies were recovered from the spot. The seriously injured mayor has been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
