Tk 10,000 crore has been proposed to allocate in the next fiscal year to address the crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak. The budget for the fiscal year 2020-21 also had a gross allocation of Tk 10,000 crore.
The proposal was made by Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal while presenting the proposed budget for the fiscal year 2021-22 in the Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday.
In his budget speech, the finance minister said, “In the last budget, we had allocated a huge amount for the implementation of special activities under the Health Services Division to deal with COVID-19. Besides, I had allocated Tk 10,000 crore to meet any urgent demand.”
“However, years after the first outbreak, there is still a horrific outbreak of the global COVID pandemic,” he mentioned, promising that the government will do everything it can to deal with this pandemic.
“That is why I am proposing to re-allocate Tk 10,000 crore in the next fiscal year to meet the urgent demand of Covid-19,” said Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
The minister has presented a budget proposal of Tk 6,03,681 crore for the fiscal year 2021-2022 in the Jaitya Sangsad. This is the largest budget in Bangladesh in terms of size.
