Buddhist monk hacked to death in Bandarban

Bhante Maungthai Tsang Prakash Nainda Bhikkuk (75), sub-principal of Bakirchora-Majherpara Buddhist Monastery was hacked to death on Wednesday morning in Bandarban.

Police and locals said he was hacked with sharp weapons. There are multiple injuries in the face and neck of the victim. After the incident, Moya Thoi (44) is absconding in Shraban Bhant (Education Abby) of Buddhist Monastery. It is believed that Moya Thoi could be involved in the killing of Bhante Maungthai.

Police recovered the dead body of the deceased on the spot. The body has been sent to Bandarban Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Senior officials of law and order administration-administration visited the site.

Kuhalong Union Parishad chairman Sanu Pru Marma said that with the sharp weapon, the sub-principal of Bakirchora-Majherpara Buddhist Monastery Nainda Bhikkuk was killed in a small scuffle. 

Local residents said the old Buddhist monastery was below the para in the past. A new Buddhist monastery on the top of the hill has been built for the year four years. In the monastery, there were 3 Buddhist monks, 1 hearing monk (education takers) and 15 children as students.
