The court on Monday has sentenced 10 accused to death and acquitted two in the case of a bomb attack at the rally of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB).

Third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court Judge Md Rabiul Alam gave the verdict. The date of the verdict was fixed after hearing the arguments of the case on December 1 last year.

Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Md Abdullah Abu confirmed the matter to Daily Bangladesh.

On January 20, 2001, five people were killed in a bomb attack at the CPB rally. In that case, then CPB president Manzurul Ahsan Khan filed a case with Motijheel Police Station.

In December 2003, a final report was submitted to the court after an investigation into the fact that no credible evidence was found against the accused.

Then there was the grenade attack on the Awami League rally in 2004 and nationwide series bombing in 2005. Following the evidence that militants were involved in these incidents, the case was ordered to be re-opened in 2005.

CID police inspector Mrinal Kanti Saha filed a chargesheet in the murder and explosive act in the court against the accused on November 27, 2013, after the reopening. The court adjourned the charges against the accused on August 21 next year.
