Today (Friday, July 30) is the birthday of Bobita, the living legend of Bengali cinema. This year, she turned 68. Many have called and greeted Bobita since 12 am on Thursday. Meanwhile, on social media, the talented actress is being greeted by her fans.

Born on this day in 1953 in Bagerhat district, Bobita’s full name is Farida Akhtar Poppy. Her father Nizamuddin Ataur was a government official and her mother B J Araa was a doctor.

They used to live in Bagerhat due to her father’s job. However, Bobita’s ancestral home is in the Jashore district. She spent the first half of his childhood and adolescence at Rabeya Manzil in front of the Circuit House in Jashore.

Among the three sisters and three brothers of Bobita, her elder sister Suchanda and younger sister Gulshan Ara Akter Champa are legendary film actresses in Dhaka cinema, elder brother Shahidul Islam is an electrical engineer, 2nd brother Iqbal Islam is an aeronautical, and younger brother Ferdous Islam is currently residing in the United States.

Bobita made her film debut in the 60s when she was in class six through the ‘Sansar’ film directed by Zaheer Raihan. In that film, she played the role of Abdur Rajjak and Suchanda’s daughter. Although the film did not release at that time, Babita was praised in the international arena through her work in Satyajit Ray’s film ‘Ashani Sanket’.

She has received numerous honors at home and abroad in recognition of her work. She won the National Film Award three years in a row. She got lifetime honor at the National Film Awards in 2016.

Bobita has numerous commercially successful films – ‘Ashani Sanket’, ‘Nishan’, ‘Montu Amar Naam’, ‘Pratigga’, ‘Love In Singapore’, ‘Mayer Jonno Pagol’, ‘Taka Ana Pai’, ‘Swarolipi’, ‘Tinkanya’, ‘Shashurbari’, ‘Miss Lanka’, ‘Jibon Songsar’, ‘Laili Majnu’, ‘Golapi Ekhon Traine’, ‘Lathiyal’, ‘Jhonmo Theke Jolchi’ etc.
