Boat capsized in Netrokona: 11 bodies recovered

A trawler has sunk in the Gumai river at Kalmakanda in Netrokona. The bodies of 11 fatalists have been recovered in this incident. Many more are reported missing locally.
The boat was sunk in the Gumai river in Rajnagar area of Borkapon UP of the upazila on Wednesday morning. The identity of the casualties was not immediately known.
Borkapon UP Chairman AKM Hadishuzzaman said a passenger trawler sank on its way from Madhyanagar of Dharmapasha police station in Sunamganj to Chakurakona area of Netrokona.
Netrokona DC Kazi Md. Abdur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that the fire service divers were working at the spot.
Netrokona SP Md. Akbar Ali Munshi said he has heard of 9-10 deaths in the trawler sinking; And on the way to the scene.
Kalmakanda UNO Md. Sohail Rana said the trawler with 36 passengers sank when it was hit by a large sand-laden boat. So far 9 bodies have been recovered. Efforts are underway to rescue the rest.
Kalmakanda OC Mazharul Islam said he left for the spot after receiving the news of the trawler sinking.
Sunamganj Dharmapasha Madhyanagar police OC Md. Abdullah Al Mamun said he is also on his way to the scene after receiving news of a trawler sinking in the Gumai River. He initially knew that the house of the deceased was in Kamaura village of Madhyanagar police station.
