After Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, now West Bengal has declared ‘black fungus’ as an epidemic. The state health department has issued multiple guidelines for the treatment of this disease.
It has been learned that one has already died of black fungus in the state. Several more have been infected.
Health Secretary Narayan Swaroop Nigam said in a directive that a CMOH should be informed if any patient is diagnosed with mucormycosis anywhere in the state with full details. Guidelines for the treatment of the disease have also been given.
The Rajasthan government first declared the black fungus as an epidemic in India. Since then, several state and central governments have brought the infection under the Epidemic Act of 1897.
Doctors say that after recovering from Covid-19, the outbreak of this disease seems to be higher. In many cases, the infection spreads through the “oxygen tube”.
