Biman ex-director and DGM detained

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday arrested former Biman director Ali Ahsan Babu and DGM Iftekhar Hossain Chowdhury on charges of financial loss of Tk 118 crore.

ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter.

He said that according to the internal inspection of the Biman, the cargo handling charges have been looted of Tk 76 crore every year since 2008. Thousands of crores have been recovered from the mentioned sector in those years. Headers have made huge properties including home-cars and businesses in Dubai.

It is learned that the arrested persons have been charged for embezzlement without collecting Tk 118 crore from handling cargo. Earlier on November 26, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against seven persons including former Bangladesh Airlines managing director Captain Mosaddek Ahmed and Captain Farhat Hassan Jamil.

Assistant director of the ACC on Monday on corruption charges. Saiful Islam filed the case. The other two accused are the former Director of the Biman Bangladesh Airlines (Administration), who is currently the Airline Training Center Principal Parth Kumar Pandit and Manager (recruitment) Fakhrul Hossain Chowdhury.
