The banks of the hilly Bhogai River flowing over the Nayabil UP in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur have collapsed and caused erosion, resulting in extreme suffering among the locals due to waterlogging from the dam collapse.

Locals claim if the dam is not constructed as soon as possible, people will be the victim of river erosion again. There will be no limit to suffering.

It is learned that the recent downpour caused by torrential rains inundated the banks of Bhogai River in Nayabil, Ramchandrakura, Marichpuran and flooded about 20 places in UP. Of these, 6 points in five places in the Nayabil area have broken about 500 feet and the riverbank, above 1000 feet, is at risk.

In Rupakura of Nayabil, 40 feet road in Palashikura-Bonarpara Shekerkura area of Poragaon and the culvert of Chatkia Rupakura road has been broken due to strong flow of water coming down from upstream.

Nayabil UP Chairman Yunus Ali Dewan said he informed the higher authorities about the erosion of the Bhogai river in the Nayabil area. This problem will only get worse if action is not taken soon.

Locals Sajeda Begum, Samela Begum, Anarullah and Helal Uddin said, their main problem now is river erosion and waterlogging. They want a solution to this problem quickly.

Upazila Project Implementation Officer Abdul Hannan said the 3 km erosion report of the Bhogai and Chellakhali rivers in Nalitabari has been officially sent. Among these, the erosion in Ramchandrakura, Nayabil and Marichpuran parts has been included in the list.
