Four people have been detained on Friday in connection with the incident of beating three policemen on Thursday for obstructing local youths as they were roaming outside unnecessarily amid the ongoing lockdown to control the COVID situation in Joypurhat.

The detainees are – Santu Mandal, Chanchal Hossain, Sagor Hossain, and Ashikur Rahman. All of them are hailing from Joypurhat municipal town areas.

A case has been lodged against the four detainees in the morning.

Earlier, the incident took place at around 5:30 pm on Thursday at the BIDC junction in Joypurhat town.

Confirming the matter, Joypurhat Sadar Police Station OC Alamgir Jahan said police were in a firm stance to implement the second day of lockdown in Joypurhat. Detainee Santu was going through the police checkpost in front of the city’s BIDC junction by motorcycle in the afternoon. “He did not have mask and helmet.”

“When duty police in the checkpost wanted to see the proper documents of the motorcycle, locals including Santu beat three policemen.”

The OC also said that three injured policemen were rescued and given first aid at Joypurhat Modern District Hospital. They are currently in the barracks. A case has been filed against the four detainees in the incident.
